Memory Support

Residents with memory deficits or Alzheimer's disease constitute a special community served in The Commons. An extensive level of staff associate interaction addressing the unique needs of these special Residents assures a safe and supportive environment.

Regular daily routines and a more intimate social setting facilitate Residents' abilities to maintain their own independence in a non-threatening setting.

All services provided through Care Levels I, II and III as well as Medication Management are the norm in The Commons. Additionally, specially designed social programs with readily achievable goals contribute to the well being of The Commons Residents.

All staff associates are immersed in extensive educational programs whereby they learn to instinctively respond to a Resident who is confused or functioning on a personal reality basis, rather than the actual situational basis. The staff associate will become a part of that Resident's reality and redirect the Resident, always treating the person with dignity and respect.

Staff associates enrich the life experience of the Resident through replacing frustration and anger with positive assistance and conversation that capitalizes on the retained abilities of each individual.

The Commons provides an environment conducive to helping our Residents be as happy and independent as possible. The Commons is secure without being unduly restrictive, and its atmosphere is enhanced with expansive views of our gardens and woodlands. Commons Residents are invited to participate in the overall life of the Community, as well as social and cultural activites designed especially for them, and held both on and off the campus.
